When it’s a searing summer morning in Santa Clarita, nothing could be worse than recognizing your home comfort system isn’t performing the way it should. The last thing you need to do is request air conditioner help. But your AC is a pretty complicated system, so it can be difficult to find out what’s triggering the problem solo.

That’s why Verona HVAC created this handbook to help you understand what may be going on with your home comfort system. From here, you’ll discover a few common explanations for why your home is feeling a little unpleasant. And even though a few of these are easy] DIY activities, you could need to bring in a skilled technician for AC repair.

And if you need us, Verona HVAC is prepared to take care of your home. Here are five reasons why your air conditioner may not be cooling your home in Santa Clarita.

1. Your Thermostat Settings Are Wrong

Everyone adjusts their thermostat a bit differently to suit their specific requirements. Even so, a number of families make the misstep of setting their device to “On” as opposed to “Auto.” With this setting, the fan in your air conditioner will continue to produce an air current even once you’ve reached your preferred temperature.

This can look like your vents are distributing warm air, when in reality it’s just employing the fan more frequently than required. Trying changing this setting and find out if things cool off.

2. Your System Needs to Be Cleaned

There are two central spaces to look for dirt or dust accumulation when your cooling system doesn’t feel like it is operating correctly.

First, check out your AC system’s filter. If you don’t change your filter on a regular basis, accumulated dirt can make it more labor intensive for air to pass through and lower the temperature your home. If your filter is visibly dirty or dusty, it’s probably time for a change. (And in general, you have to replace it about once every three months at a minimum.)

If your filter seems fine, go to your external unit. Make sure there’s enough room around your air conditioner and clean up plants or litter close by. This piece of your system discharges the heat from your space. If the coils outside are blocked, you won’t be feeling comfortable inside.

We recommend booking professional air conditioner maintenance yearly to keep your unit operating smoothly and to keep your warranty valid.

3. Your Unit is Losing Refrigerant

Refrigerant is the material that cools the air in your house. It runs between your indoor and external system pieces to absorb and discharge heat, to help your house remain cool. If there is a crack along that path, you won’t be cool again until you set professional air conditioning repair.

Signals of a refrigerant leak include a decline in cooled air, higher monthly bills, frozen evaporator coils and unusual hissing noises originating from your air conditioner.

If you suspect refrigerant may be leaking, call Verona HVAC for AC repair as soon as possible. Refrigerant can also be damaging to your family’s health.

4. One or More Parts Have to Be Replaced

Your system includes a a handful of important parts. These include the blower, evaporator coils, compressor, fan, condenser coils and expansion valve. If one of these is not working as it should, your home comfort suffers.

Our Verona HVAC pros are trained and experienced in HVAC. They can help you locate and fix any trouble.

5. Your System Has to Be Upgraded

If your AC is more than 10 years old, it is probably about time to look into new air conditioner installation. As your system gets up there in years, it unfortunately won’t run as well as it once did. And it might be making your home less comfortable.

If your HVAC unit is more current but still isn’t cooling things off, it could be the wrong size for your home. Air conditioners are not one-size-fits-all. An air conditioner that’s undersized just can’t help a house the way a correctly sized HVAC can.
